For my first "real" job out of university, I knew that joining a firm with a well-known brand like KPMG would equip me with the skills, experience, and network that I would need to start out and grow my career. Also, the opportunity I was offered - to join as one of the foundation members of a newly formed specialty practice in Tax (Transfer Pricing) - sounded like an interesting challenge.
As for why Singapore - why wouldn't anyone want to come to this dynamic and cosmopolitan city, with its plethora of opportunities to balance work and play? On the work side, Singapore is well regarded as a regional hub and a gateway to opportunities in Asia. On the personal side, the many pros for living in Singapore include the high standard of public safety and security, the highly effective public transport system, its proven reputation as a food paradise (at any hour!), the ease of weekend getaways, Orchard Road retailers for those who must shop, and of course, the array of buzzing nightlife options to choose from.
Being in KPMG Singapore is like being surrounded by delegates from the United Nations - we are constantly interacting with not only home-grown talent, but people from all corners of the globe. We have Thais, Brits, Aussies, Filipinos, Koreans, Bangladeshis, Indonesians, Malaysians, Chinese, Dutch, just to name a few of the nationalities. And this, just on the 9th floor (Tax department) alone! |
