In KPMG, I have worked closely with government agencies and clients in the real estate, petroleum trading, shipping and logistics industries. My overseas assignments have included Saudi Arabia and Taiwan.
The most eye-opening project experience for me by far was when I spent 4 months in 2008 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to develop processes for a property developer as they are building the King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC).
It is not often that one gets to play a part in the building of a whole city from scratch on an empty plot of land. When this city takes off and becomes the next Dubai as envisioned, I would certainly have an interesting tale to tell my children and grandchildren, that I was there in the beginning, and played a part in the growth of the city.
I am thankful that no two business days for me are ever exactly the same.
What is the only constant is that I usually start my working day by keeping abreast with the latest business news and current affairs in general. It could come in useful in discussions with clients or team-mates in the later part of the day. I could then spend a good part of my day either facilitating client discussions, or conducting research, or preparing for presentations. As part of business development work, I am also actively involved in the preparation of proposals and sales pitches.
I want to be challenged at every stage of my career, and every day for that matter. KPMG is the right place for me as it pushes and stretches me in all the right ways. KPMG is not good at staying still. And neither am I. |
