Frequently Asked Questions

Q. As a Graduate Assistant (GA), will I get a chance to be posted overseas?
A. Other than the international assignments, staff do go on overseas job assignments for short periods of time. Some staff will be required to go on short trips to Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Mauritius or even China for periods ranging from a week to a month.

Q. I'm an overseas undergraduate. Can I come for internship during my summer vacation?
A. As summer vacation periods differ from country to country, it will depend on the firm's need for interns. Our peak period is from November to May, so students whose vacations fall during this period might stand a better chance of securing an internship.

Q. What are your selection criteria?
A. We want well-rounded individuals. Besides good academic grades, we also look into the types of extra-curricular activities and hobbies/interests that the candidate is involved in. Candidates must also have good oral and written English skills.

Q. Do you take in foreigners? How do I apply for a permit to work?
A. Foreign talent is always welcome in KPMG. As professionals, you do not apply for work permits, but rather, employment passes. Once you are recruited by the Firm, KPMG will apply for your employment pass. You will commence work only when Singapore's immigration department approves your pass.

Q. I'm interested in working in the consulting area. How do I apply?
A. You can attention all applications to the Human Resources Department, stating clearly the position and area you are interested in.

Q. What are your benefits like?
A. Staff are covered under a group life insurance policy. The Firm will pick up the tabs for medical consultation and accompanying medication. Tabs for general dental maintenance will be reimbursed up to a prescribed annual limit. Diploma holders from polytechnics receive full financial assistance to complete the ACCA programme. The Firm provides car and computer loans, interest-free to staff. KPMG also helps staff work towards their ICPAS memberships by paying for their subscriptions to the Institute.

Q. What is the dress code like? Can we come in casuals?
A. We have a Client Environment Dress Code (CEDC) policy where our professionals have the choice to dress appropriately to the client's own dress policy at the client's place. In addition, we also have business casual dressing on Fridays or at the end of the work week.

Q. I hear that KPMG provides excellent training for their staff. What kind of training will I receive when I join?
A. On-the-job training as well as classroom training is provided so that staff can develop to their full potential. In-house training is carried out by our own partners and managers and the courses are designed to meet and enhance the needs and skills of our people at every stage of their careers. The training programmes serve to emphasise our technical and professional client service skills.

In-house training is normally scheduled in the months of June through to October, during the off-peak period. Each professional staff will receive an average of 50 - 80 hours (higher for Graduate Assistants) of professional training, which exceeds the ICPAS requirements of 40 hours a year. In line with the Firm's efforts to train each staff member to become a business consultant, our professionals may have the opportunity to expose themselves to a wide variety of work which enables an effective cross-fertilization of ideas.

Q. What is the career progression like in KPMG?
A. Associate — Senior Associate — Assistant Manager — Manager — Senior Manager — Director/Partner
